Yeah, King is still up there for me, but I haven't read much of his stuff lately. I actually just started Just After Sunset, his latest story collection.

I was definitely into Stephen King when I was 11 or so as well. I got 'Nightmares and Dreamscapes' and saw 'The Shining' (Kubrick more than King, but you get what I mean) around the same time

Hey, great write up! I just wanted to point out that I came in 3rd in 1990 and not 2nd. Again, I really appreciate the review. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions. - Robin

I think that might have been when I saw it first, too. The gore has always impressed me, but his movies just aren't....good. Zombie is his most coherent, but even it takes some patience.
This, of course, won't stop me from watching more. I just added Don't Torture A Duckling and Woman In Lizard Skin to my queue. Not sure if I'll review them, but we'll see how I like 'em.

When I saw THE BEYOND for the first time it was at a Tarantino-sponsored fundraising festival for the AFS. The geek-laureate of American cinema also argued that Fulci's horror films took the form of a nightmare, where logic gets thrown right out the window and into the rat-filled dumpster. It worked well for his better horror films, including this one (which I've seen; fun, but hardly his best), but lets keep it in perspective; the man made a movie a month for half a century, and less than ten of them are worth seeing today.

I think we're basically saying the same thing, just coming at it from different angles. In other words, I agree with you.

About your commentary on flawed heroes: I felt the message was more that people can change and should be judged for their entire life, not just their youth. After all, Dumbledore was the greatest wizard of all time, controls an important wand, and nobody realizes it? He couldn't have been just about power, so I think he overcame his flaw and that it was probably love that allowed him.

Great review! I agree with you on most points, completely forgot about all those 60s cover-ups! Really did fit.

Thanks for your review, I'll be sharing it. :)

Not a bad review, though I disagree with you on some points. I didn't read mystique as having a lovey-dovey thing for Chuck and I didn't buy Kev as Shaw. And dude, X-MEN ORIGINS:WOLVERINE is a far better movie than you and many others in greater Geekonia seem to think it is. Good story, good supporting characters, very good action. And I wanna be Gambit. He's like the coolest.
