Disney’s first princess of color is a pretty rousing success. It’s maybe a little busy and hectic at times, but it’s a LOT of fun and actually made me think of a lot of the classics like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Jungle Book. (The jazz playing alligator might as well be Baloo.)

This one is super dark, too. There’s a Baron Samedi type character who instigates all of the evil and he might kill some people. Maybe. At least I think he would.

Of course, this one had me at Randy Newman and Dr John, but ymmv.

Loved it way more than I thought I would. Definitely check it out.

It’s sad that this is the last traditionally animated film that Disney has released. They said that it underperformed because audiences found it too “old fashioned.” Fuck that. It’s beautifully animated. It’s time to bring back traditional animation. I can’t imagine this being all CGI.
